Belts have been keeping people's pants up for as long as pants have been in style.  And while they have done that well enough, nothing much has changed in the way of belt design.  Most belts rely on the old hook and eye, with some newer designs using a clasp, which can be found on military style outfits.  Additionally, the hook and eye buckle design has been typically paired with a leather strap for the actual belt, while the clasp might be paired with lighter webbing material.  But again - other than literally tying a strap around your waist with a knot - those are the only two options available for holding pants up.I believe there is a better design.

But  what is wrong with the two designs we already have?  The hook and eye belt is almost unmoveable, but doesn't allow finer adjustment beyond the 12 or so holes provided.  The clasp belt is more adjustable but less appropriate for formal situations.  So what is the better design?  Somewhere in between: A buckle that is adjustable like the clasp, paired with an actual belt that is more presentable.  For the purpose of naming, we might call the belt the slackbelt.

What does a slackbelt look like?  Because black works with almost any outfit, it would be black, but of course any color could be used eventually.  Also, the clasp itself could be either solid metal or plastic, using the same principle that the typical clasp belt employs to grab on to the strap, only simpler.  And finally, the belt material could be thin leather, or any fine woven material for that matter.
